Fish Basket Grilled Salmon

A grilled salmon fillet is a fantastic weeknight dinner! This time, I opted to put this fillet in a fish basket. My uncle said he loves to cook this way; removing from the grill is easy and keeps all the toppings on the fish.

Salmon is one of those lean proteins I love making for dinner. It pairs amazingly with a light side dish. I am lucky to get fresh caught PNW salmon often, but you can also order salmon or pick it up in the grocery store.

Grilled Salmon INgredients

Salmon Fillet– I was lucky enough to have freshly caught, but you can use store-bought and previously frozen fillets. Amazon and Walmart both have a great selection.

Salmon Rub– You can do a homemade rub, but let’s face it, this is a fast and easy recipe. I used Trader Joe’s new salmon rub, and it was amazing! There were hints of smoke in it but it was not overwhelming.

How To Make Grilled Salmon in a Fish Basket

Start by defrosting your salmon if needed, or if it’s fresh, ensure it is appropriately cleaned and filleted.

Slice your lemons. I did little wedges, but you can do rounds if you would like.

Spray your fish basket with a nonstick spray.

Oil both the skin side and the meat side of your salmon filet. This helps the salmon not to stick but to have the seasoning stick to the salmon.

Lay skin side down inside of the grill fish basket.

Season to taste with your seasoning, I used Trader Joe’s Salmon Rub, but you can use any rub.

Space out pieces of lemon on top of your salmon fillet.

Latch the top of the grill basket to close it in.

Turn your grill onto a low-medium heat.

Once your grill has warmed up, take the fish basket with your salmon fillet to the grill.

You can place it on the upper or lower racks., I knew I would be watching closely since I also made Cheesy Asparagus to pair with it, so I cooked it on the lower rack. I also made two other varieties of grilled salmon that day.

Use a meat thermometer to verify that the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees, and then remove for serving. Your cooking time will vary based on your grill temperature.

Grilled Salmon In Fish Basket

Use a fish basket to grill your salmon for an easy weeknight dinner! Rub and lemons and pair with a veggie, rice, or a green salad for a healthy dinner!

  • Defrost or prepare your salmon if it is freshly caught.

  • Spray your fish basket with a nonstick spray.

  • Rub both sides of your salmon fillet with olive oil.

  • Lay skin side down in the open fish basket and sprinkle with seasoning.

  • Space lemon wedges or slices out on top of the fillet
