This recipe has chicken AND potatoes, but you can finish things off with my easy broccoli and a quick side salad for a filling meal the whole family will love.

Why You’ll Love This Slow Cooker Ranch Chicken

My mom made three meals growing up. Three. Chicken in the slow cooker with cream of chicken soup was one of them and one of her favorite recipes. While that meal was always gobbled down in no-time, this version takes it entirely to the next level! It really is ridiculously easy yet an undeniably delicious recipe that’s about to become your new go-to!

  • Effortless Cooking: Literally, just set it and forget it. Perfect for those days when you’d rather chill than grill.
  • Flavor Town: The slow cook method means every bite is infused with that creamy, herby ranch goodness. It’s like a flavor hug for your taste buds!
  • Crowd-Pleaser Alert: From picky toddlers to discerning in-laws, it’s a universal yum.
  • Budget-Friendly: This recipe doesn’t demand fancy ingredients, making your wallet (and belly) equally happy.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Here’s another reason why you need to add this to your must-make list. This easy recipe calls for only a handful of simple ingredients. Here is what you will need to get started:

  • Chicken: When it comes to this delicious meal, the best chicken to use is boneless, skinless chicken breast. Just remember, they can dry out if overcooked, so keep an eye on the cooking time.
  • Ranch Seasoning: It’s the MVP that turns bland chicken into a flavor-packed superstar. The magic of the herbs and spices in a ranch packet helps to tenderize the chicken, making each bite melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
  • Cream of Chicken: Easy to find and a breeze to use, it’s a busy cook’s best friend. Just pop the can and pour no roux or bchamel sauce needed here!
  • Chicken Broth: Broth adds a subtle, savory background note that complements the ranch seasoning and cream of chicken, creating a more complex and rounded taste. It also helps keep the chicken from drying out.
  • Potatoes: To keep this a one pot meal, I included little potatoes. They slow cook with the chicken and are perfectly soft when it’s time to serve dinner. You could also opt for the addition of baby carrots or green beans for an easy meal option!
  • Optional: Although this crockpot ranch chicken doesn’t need anything additional, it’s delightful with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese or dollop of sour cream!

Slow cooker Ranch Chicken Recipe

Let’s break down the instructions for this great recipe. It’s one of my new favorites – mainly thanks to the delicious ranch flavor!

  1. Chicken Time: Layer the chicken breasts into a single layer in the crock pot base. It’s like building a flavor fortress!
  2. Potato Prep: Toss those cute little potatoes in the Crock Pot. They’re going to soak up all the flavors and become little bites of heaven.
  3. Seasoning Sprinkle: Open that packet of ranch seasoning and sprinkle it all over the chicken. Don’t be shy; this is where the zing comes in!
  4. Soup and Broth Mix: In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup and chicken broth until it’s smooth like a jazz tune. This mixture is going to bring everything together.
  5. Pour it On: Gently pour the soup and broth mix over the chicken. It’s okay if it doesn’t cover everything; the Crock Pot will work its magic.
  6. Cooking Time: Set your Crock Pot to low and cook for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours. This is when you take a break and let the slow cooker do its thing.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Once the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature of 165F (75C) and the potatoes are tender, it’s time to serve up! This dish is great on its own or with a side of green beans or a crisp salad.

And voil! A comforting, hearty meal with minimal effort. The chicken will be tender, the potatoes perfectly flavored, and your kitchen will smell amazing.

Recipe Notes:

Can I use frozen chicken?

Yes, but for best results, thaw the chicken first. If you use frozen chicken, increase the cooking time to ensure it reaches the safe internal temperature of 165F.

How can I prevent the chicken from drying out?

Make sure to use enough liquid (chicken broth and cream of chicken soup in this case) and avoid overcooking. Cooking on low heat is often better for keeping the chicken moist.

Can I add vegetables to this recipe?

Absolutely! Carrots, green beans, or bell peppers can be added. Just make sure to cut them into sizes that will cook evenly with the chicken. You can even toss in cooked and crumbled bacon as the chicken cooks for a flavor boost!

What can I serve with Crock Pot Ranch Chicken?

It pairs wonderfully with a variety of sides like mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, or a fresh salad. Ideal for busy nights.

Can I use a different cut of chicken?

Yes, boneless, skinless chicken thighs are a great alternative. They are juicier and more flavorful, but keep in mind they have a higher fat content.

How long can I store the leftovers?

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Can I freeze this dish?

Yes, Crock Pot Ranch Chicken makes a great freezer meal. Store it in freezer-safe containers for up to 2-3 months.
